New Books!

As many of you know, our library is currently rather small. But oh, how it’s growing! As new titles come into our possession we’ll be adding them to our Print Resources page. We’ll also be writing reviews and giving recommendations. Some of the works we just acquired are pretty thick, so those write-ups will be a little slower in coming.

Since many of our members are followers of reconstructionist faiths, we aren’t shying away from scholarly works. We don’t think you should either! There is so much to learn and choosing works aimed at the general public can get dicey. Primary sources should be considered as often as possible. Even through the hands of a translator, you can make your own decisions instead of relying on the interpretation of another.

Ok, they aren’t always super exciting, but that doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t consider giving them a try. You can absolutely read them. No college degree necessary. A handy dictionary will get you through some of the field specific jargon and you can always, always, always ask questions.

Be bold. Do not be afraid. Philosophy and difficult works make everyone’s head hurt, even the writer. That’s a good thing. Your brain is working hard to process new information and integrate it into your world view. All those grey matter wrinkles will come in handy someday. Keep at it. You’ll get there.

Right now, we’re working our way through Earthly Bodies, Magical Selves: Contemporary Pagans and the Search for Community by Sarah M. Pike. What are you reading right now?
